This Silver Maple tree that resides on what is today the grounds of The Ebb & Flow Institute is believed to have been planted by General Sam Houston during a break on his advance toward San Jacinto.

Even in times of war a man must pause to be a responsible steward of the planet.... now..... fetch me a shovel, we got us a tree to plant.--General Sam Houston
