Rumsfeld The New Ashcroft

Donald Rumsfeld seems to have replaced Ashcroft as the favorite target in the Bush administration for the media and now several Senators who fancy themselves mavericks, and enjoy the adoring media coverage that is available whenever a Republican goes against his own party.

We at the Institute are on record as supporting Rummy. The job of transforming our military from a cold war force to one that is mobile, can be dispatched quickly and able to handle the threats that now confront us, and will continue to confront us in the foreseeable future, requires a man that isn't afraid to ruffle a few feathers. Having said that I am aware that in doing so, he may have dismissed, and made enemies of some who are not a part of the problem and should be his allies.

I am not going to spend a lot of time posting about this, there is plenty out there if you are interested. Captain Ed of the Captain's Quarters has several very thoughtful posts on the subject and seems to be taking a minor flogging from his readers. He has also posted an e-mail he received from Dafydd, one of his regular readers, that is very thought provoking, regarding the consequences should McCain and his sidekicks be successful in forcing Rummy out.

Go check it out. I only hope the Captain's server can handle the Ebbalanche.
